In the last 20 years flooding has been the world’s most common natural disaster and by some margin, with over 3,000 natural flood disasters declared, accounting for 43% of all recorded natural disaster events. Second only to floods were storms, accounting for a further 28% of events.

Such disasters are on the rise, too; in the UK the last 10 years have recorded around 14% more floods than the previous 10 years whilst 2015 provided the wettest December ever recorded.
